Focus Your Genius
Self-Improvement for Creative Thinkers

Monthly Update

This issue of Focus Your Genius was definitely a long-time-comin'. Now at long last, just in time to give a nice little motivational boost as the holidays approach, here it is! I have had a wonderful month so far, even though we've already had our first Chicagoland snowstorm of the year. (And our second...) In today's issue, I'm going to share a way to wrap up 2007 powerfully, and ALSO share a very special opportunity with you to launch 2008 with a bang!

Warmly,
Tammy

How to Focus Your Genius

Reflect and Review
One of the steps of my coaching process, detailed in the link "LASER Focus" on the right-side of the page, is "Realignment." During this part of the coaching relationship, I work with clients to anchor their growth and learning in order to build onto the foundation. The end of the year is a perfect opportunity for each of us to do a little bit of realigning. Today, I'm going to share some questions to help you realign and refocus for the new year. I encourage you to jot down the answers to these questions and revisit them once or twice in 2008 as well.

1. Brag Book - What are your 3 most significant accomplishments of 2007? Often, by the time the end of the year rolls around, we've forgotten the major successes we had earlier in the year. I earned my ACC accreditation from the ICF in May, and I'm THRILLED to have achieved that goal... But now that it's so far in the past, I haven't thought about how significant that was for me this year! However, by reviewing our past accomplishments and acknowledging ourselves for having worked through the process to actually attain our goals, we can anchor our successes, build our confidence and self-esteem, and tap into our potential.

Jinny S. Ditzler, in Your Best Year Yet, expresses perfectly what I'm trying to point out;

When you find achievements to celebrate, you nourish your spirit and motivate yourself.

Awareness brings its own reward. Shifting your attention to what you have accomplished in the past year awakens your "Can Do!" attitude and gets you back in touch with your ability to make things happen.

2. Still Growing - In what other ways did you grow and develop throughout 2007? What did you learn about yourself this year? As Socrates realized a few years back, "An unexamined life is not worth living." Take a few moments and examine your life, especially over the past year.

3. What's better? - What is better at this point in time, than a year ago? Sometimes this question brings us to a new awareness of a lesson or accomplishment that we'd forgotten about. If not, it still brings us to a place of appreciation and gratitude.

4. What's next? - 2008 is a wide canvas before you... what areas are you going to focus your time, energy, and attention upon? What would having an "awesome" year look like? And most importantly... What is the first step to getting there?!

I hope that you take a few minutes to reflect upon these questions, and get a nice launching pad ready to propel you towards your goals in 2008.
